Chick-fil-A Plans Major Expansion With Over 25 New Locations

In 2024, many chicken-focused fast-food chains have announced ambitious growth plans, and Chick-fil-A is no exception. The popular chicken sandwich chain is set to expand significantly, particularly in one key state: Michigan.

This week, Chick-fil-A revealed plans to open 25 to 30 new locally owned and operated restaurants in Michigan by the end of 2028. This expansion will effectively double the number of Chick-fil-A locations in the state, which currently has 28 restaurants.

Chick-fil-A first made its debut in Michigan in 2015, and this growth marks a major investment in the region.

New Restaurants Coming To Michigan

Beginning this fall and winter, Chick-fil-A will open four new restaurants in the Detroit/Ann Arbor region. The specific locations include Chesterfield Township, Roseville, Taylor, and Fort Gratiot.

In addition, more restaurants will be launched in Detroit, Auburn Hills, Lincoln Park, Orion Township, Clinton Township, Canton, and Ann Arbor. One of the new locations will also be a licensed restaurant inside Detroit’s First National Building.

By 2025, Chick-fil-A aims to open two more restaurants in the Lansing/Jackson area, one in Flint-Saginaw, and another in Benton Harbor. In total, the 28 new locations planned for Michigan are expected to create more than 2,500 new jobs.

Chick-fil-A’s Growing Presence

“Michigan is a state filled with tight-knit communities and proud residents, with a unique mix of rural, suburban, and city neighborhoods,” said Scott Mayson, Chick-fil-A’s area director for the Midwest, in a press release.

“Expanding our presence in Michigan was a clear next step when looking for opportunities to better serve guests and support local communities and economic development.”

Currently, Chick-fil-A operates over 3,000 restaurants across 48 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Canada. The chain opened 141 new locations in 2023 alone and aims to add 157 new franchised units in the U.S. this year, according to Restaurant Dive.

Beyond the U.S., the company is also expanding internationally, with plans to open at least 15 new restaurants in Puerto Rico and as many as 20 new locations in Alberta, Canada, by 2030.

New Openings Across The U.S.

This week, Chick-fil-A opened new locations in Chapel Hill, N.C., Loveland, Colo., Dallas, Texas, and Newington, N.H. Additionally, the brand is set to expand its presence in New York City with a new restaurant opening in the Bronx on September 12.

Exciting Menu Updates

In addition to new restaurants, Chick-fil-A has also expanded its menu offerings. The chain recently launched a spicy version of its popular Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich.

The new version features a spicy chicken filet, topped with mild pickled jalapeños, pimento cheese, and a drizzle of honey, all served on a toasted bun. This sandwich contains 620 calories.

Chick-fil-A has also brought back its beloved Banana Pudding Milkshake, which was last available 13 years ago. The shake contains 720 calories and will be available for a limited time alongside the brand-new Banana Frosted Coffee, which has 480 calories. These limited-edition items will be available nationwide until November 16, or while supplies last.

With its ambitious expansion plans and exciting new menu items, Chick-fil-A continues to solidify its status as a leading fast-food chain, delighting both new and long-time fans alike.
