Major Food Recalls You Should Know About Right Now

In today’s world, food recalls have become a regular occurrence, affecting even companies known for their high safety standards. Many issues can prompt food recalls to protect consumers from undeclared allergens to bacterial contamination.

When a product is deemed unsafe, companies notify customers to avoid or return it. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) provide updated recall lists, but staying informed on your own can be challenging.

To make it easier, here’s a summary of the major food recalls affecting consumers in 2024. Look for these items and take appropriate action if you have any in your pantry or refrigerator.

7-Eleven Fudge Brownies

Over 2,000 fudge brownies from 7-Eleven earlier this month were recalled due to undeclared walnuts. Sold only in Southern California, these 3.5-ounce brownies with the code “Best By Wednesday 0911” may pose a risk for those with nut allergies. Although no illnesses have been reported, customers are advised to discard or return the product for a refund.

Kandy Cantaloupe

Cantaloupes distributed by Eagle Produce LLC under the Kandy brand were recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. Sold between August 13 and 17 in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia, the affected cantaloupes bear a red and white sticker marked “KANDY” and UPC 4050. No related illnesses have been reported so far.

Great Value Apple Juice

Walmart recalled more than 9,500 cases of its Great Value Apple Juice due to elevated levels of arsenic. This product, sold across 25 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., comes in six-packs of 8-ounce bottles. The recalled items have a best-by date of December 28, 2024, and a UPC of 0-78742-29655-5.

Perdue Chicken Products

Perdue has recalled approximately 167,000 pounds of chicken due to potential metal contamination. Affected items include packages of Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets, Chicken Breast Tenders, and ButcherBox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets with a “Best By” date of March 23, 2025. Consumers are advised to return or discard the products.

Ground Cinnamon Powder

Several brands of ground cinnamon, including Marcum, Supreme Tradition, Shahzada, and Spice Class, were recalled due to high lead levels. Lead exposure can result in kidney and nervous system damage. Consumers are urged to check the best-by dates and UPCs and return or discard the items.

Boar’s Head Deli Meats

Boar’s Head recalled over 200,000 pounds of deli meats, including liverwurst, Virginia Ham, Bologna, and Beef Salami. The products may be contaminated with Listeria, leading to serious illness. Consumers should consult the FSIS recall notice for product details and discard or return affected items.

Al Safa Halal Chicken Products

More than 2,000 pounds of frozen chicken from Al Safa were recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. The recall affects 12.1-ounce boxes of Chicken Seekh Kebabs and 12.11-ounce boxes of Chicken Chapli Kebabs, marked with “NOV 30 25” and establishment number 866.

Aldi Bake Shop Chocolate Chip Muffins

Due to undeclared walnuts, Aldi recalled nearly 12,000 cases of its Bake Shop Chocolate Chip Muffins. These muffins, sold nationwide in four-packs, have the lot number NF1 142Y and UPC 4099100048278.

Foppen Smoked Norwegian Salmon

Foppen Seafood recalled its Smoked Norwegian Salmon due to Listeria contamination. The recalled packages, which weigh 8.1 ounces and have lot number 412, were sold in Kroger and Payless stores across 15 states. Consumers are urged to return or discard the product.

Cool Ice Cream Products

Due to Listeria contamination, cool issued a recall for over 60 ice cream products, including popular brands like ChipWich and Friendly’s. No illnesses have been reported, but consumers should return or discard affected items.

Hudson Harvest Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce

Hudson Harvest recalled 16-ounce jars of Tomato Basil Sauce after reports of swelling or bursting jars, indicating possible spoilage. The affected products were sold in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, with lot number 1042426 and UPC 683720301567.

Wow Bao Thai-Style Curry Chicken Bao

Bao’s Thai-Style Curry Chicken Bao was flagged due to undeclared soy and sesame allergens. The FSIS issued a health alert as some packages may contain teriyaki chicken instead. The 10-ounce boxes have a “Best By” date of April 12, 2025, and establishment number P-40001.

Baraka Ground Black Pepper

Baraka Ground Black Pepper was recalled on June 3 due to possible salmonella contamination. The recall applies to seven-ounce containers with the UPC 8 22514 26626 6 and an expiration date of January 2026.
